A 2020 study found that 58% of 1,000 papers linked ESG risk factors to better financial performance, but few explained why. Dr. Todd Cort discovered that as environmental indicators became more detailed, the connection weakened—showing a gap between ESG metrics and real financial results. He refers to this gap as “The Missing Middle” (Cort, 2022), indicating that ESG indicators affect financial performance based on a company’s operational environment and control systems. Avisk aims to gather the necessary operational data and support this theory, providing a solution to connect ESG theory with financial outcomes. With over 25 years of experience spanning aerospace, IT, and climate tech ventures, Johnny brings a unique blend of systems-engineering acumen and financial-innovation expertise. Previously, Johnny co-founded the Sustainable Finance Institute and served as its Asia Executive Director, mobilizing institutional capital toward resilient cities and breakthrough climate-tech solutions.
Dr.Todd Cort

Dr. Todd Cort has spent his career working in academia and consulting. Dr. Cort is the founder and owner of NPV Associates, where he provides advisory services for clients in sustainability and corporate responsibility. Dr. Cort also serves as a Senior Lecturer at Yale School of Management and as the Faculty Co-Director at Yale Center for Business and the Environment

Ajay completed both his B.A. and Master’s degrees at Yale University and has held roles at Blackstone, Deloitte, and Yale’s Center for Business and the Environment. He currently works on the Public Markets team at Partners Capital, where he evaluates and monitors investment managers across global equities and hedge fund strategies.
